Ten students from IES Alhama, I included, volunteered to participate in STARS (Sustainable Transport Accreditation and Recognition System) program. On Tuesday 18th December we departed from Corella, five students with my PE teacher, Toño, in Biciclistas’ van and five with my father.
All the high schools of our towns (Castejón, Corella, and Tudela) were represented in the kick-off meeting. Overall, 66 students and 8 teachers gathered in an impressive auditorium in Jesuitas High School. Besides, Tudela´s mayor and several town councilors attended the meeting.
At the beginning, I thought the event would be boring but we all had a great time. It started with a presentation to inform and encourage us to become STARS ambassadors. After that, we watched two inspiring videos and they made random groups with students representing each school to analyze sustainable mobility in our town and school. My groupmates were very nice.
And that´s all we had time for! As there were 30 minutes to kill, we made a school tour with a volunteer teacher. Jesuitas building is amazing. It´s almost 150 years old. The hallways are never-ending and the stairs soooo beautiful. Besides, it feels great to walk aimlessly along the empty hallways when everybody else is in class. When the bell rang, we met some old friends and acquantainces. It was sooo exciting!
I´m looking forward to enjoying the next meeting! In the meantime, there´s plenty of work ahead. Get ready, Alhama High School!
