The last couple of Wednesdays the six new Erasmus+ students from Randersgade Skole in Copenhagen has been training to ride rickshaws. The sessions took place at the retirement home Nybodergården where this optional activity is part of the weekly schedule for the elderly residents.
It was the first time the six students tried to ride the bikes who did a great job biking around the city with each other as passengers.
The training consists not only of learning how to ride and manage the bikes, it is also focusing on the caring relation to the passenger on board. When the students train with each other, they get a sense of the importance to take care of the passenger. The idea is for them to learn about this way of mobility that has a greater purpose – namely the joy for the elderly to go for a ride in the city.
The sessions are a part of a pilot-program which is planned for the students in the Erasmus+ Project launched by Foreningen Frie Fugle. The students will eventually be trained to bike with the elderly in the streets of the Copenhagen.
The training was coordinated by Signe Weinreich from Foreningen Frie Fugle, who instructed and followed the biking in the city. The Erasmus+ students are all members of Foreningen Frie Fugle.
