The #andshecycle Ambassador Programme was developed by Green-Schools with the purpose of addressing the teenage cycling gender gap. The justification behind it came from different research and surveys which revealed a very low engagement in cycling by young girls- only one in every 250 teenage girls cycle to school every day- and has as a main objective empowering young girls and provide them with more opportunities to cycle.
The programme is open to all girls/young women attending an active Green-Schools secondary school currently working on the Travel or Global Citizenship Travel themes and its devised in different stages:
- Application stage, where students apply and are selected;
- Training stage, where students are briefed and trained in a selection of skills that will help them take action to address the cycling gender gap;
- Action stage, where students take action to enable and empower girls to cycle to school;
- Award stage, where each ambassador/team of ambassadors are awarded their certificate of completion and outstanding achievements will be recognised.
Between the months of February and September 2021 the ambassadors will have the opportunity to all meet each other during the online training sessions and network gathering. The winning ambassadors will be selected at the end of September and will be announced during the awards ceremony in early October.
